LEAP Africa Youth Leadership Development Programme 2023
Young change leaders who are Nigerian graduates are invited to the 2023 cohort of the LEAP Africa Youth Leadership Development Programme 2023 which is designed to empower, equip, and support these young change leaders under the age of 30 years, by providing them with the knowledge, abilities, and supportive environment needed for them to become self-leaders.
The LEAP Africa Youth Leadership Development Program aims to empower young Nigerian change leaders under the age of 30 years through education, skills development, and a supportive environment. This program is particularly relevant to current issues in Africa, such as leadership, active citizenship, and sustainable development, especially as the country approaches an election year. The Youth Leadership Program works to enhance youth leadership and activism in Nigeria by engaging in policy discussions and providing resources that allow young people to play a role in shaping the country’s long-term development plans.

Eligibility for the LEAP Africa Youth Leadership Development Programme 2023:
- Applicants must be Male or Female Undergraduates in a Tertiary/Vocational Institution in Nigeria.
- Applicants must be between the ages of 18 to 30 years at the time of application.
- Applicants must be passionate about advocacy, activism, and community development.
- Applicants must be interested in inclusion, diversity, and civic responsibility and eager to exercise these interests.
- Applicants must be eager to champion change projects geared towards community development and the SDGs.
- Applicants must be eager to engage with government institutions and influence policy in Nigeria.
- Applicants must be committed to attending the Online Training and Debates.
Program Components for the LEAP Africa Youth Leadership Development Programme 2023:
The Youth Leadership Program offers virtual training through a Learning Management System (LMS) where participants can access modules under the three pillars of the program: Leadership, Active Citizenship, and Sustainable/Community Development. Participants have five weeks to complete the modules.
The Virtual Community of Practice is an online platform where members can access learning materials, stay informed about program updates, and engage in opportunities for professional development. It encourages collaboration and sharing of information among its participants.
The Change Project Pitching Sessions, Mentorship, and Implementation is a program where individuals come together in teams of 3-5 to pitch proposals for community change projects addressing social issues. 100 of the most promising proposals will receive funding and mentorship to help develop and implement their projects.
The Leadership Debates is a competition in which teams of participants submit video entries to compete in 5 rounds, starting with elimination rounds 1 & 2, followed by quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final round. To prepare for the competition, participants will take policy accelerator courses taught by experts in order to develop their debating skills and enhance their understanding of civic participation.
The Youth Leadership Conference marks the end of the Youth Leadership Programme, featuring a physical Debate National Finale, and Awards Ceremony. It serves as an occasion to recognize the achievements of participants, teams, and institutions during the five-month program.
Courses for the LEAP Africa Youth Leadership Development Programme 2023:
The Youth Leadership Development Programme is composed of 22 modules that focus on three main areas: Leadership, Active Citizenship, and Sustainable/Community Development. These modules have been specifically crafted to address the challenges facing young people in Nigeria and to fill gaps in leadership, active citizenship, and sustainable/community development. By completing these modules, participants will gain the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to become effective leaders and agents of change within their communities and in shaping policy.
