Eligibility for the World Bank Legal Vice Presidency’s (LEG VPU) Fall 2023 Internship Program:

  • Applicants must hold citizenship of any IBRD member state.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in an LLB, JD, LLM, SJD, Ph.D., or equivalent legal academic program while undertaking their internship. (e.g. if you apply for the Summer Cycle of LIP, you must be enrolled in an eligible legal academic program between June and August)
  • Applicants must have an excellent command of the English language.
  • Priorities will be given to applicants who possess a decent command of a second language, especially if that is one of the working languages of IBRD such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish.

Fall Internship Program for the World Bank Legal Vice Presidency’s (LEG VPU) Fall 2023 Internship Program:

  • The application period will commence on April 1 and end on April 30 (The proposed internship period is for 10-12 weeks, typically between September and November, depending on prevailing needs).
  • This is an excellent opportunity for students looking to gain professional experiences at the World Bank in the form of externships during the academic year while enrolled in a full-time law program or for those enrolled in part-time and/or evening law programs.
  • According to U.S. Department of Homeland Security rules, students authorized to participate in pre-completion OPT may work part-time (20 hours or less per week) while school is in session.

Program Details for the World Bank Legal Vice Presidency’s (LEG VPU) Fall 2023 Internship Program:

The World Bank will only provide assistance with obtaining visa documents for participants in the Legal Internship Program in exceptional circumstances, and these visa documents must be sponsored by their educational institutions.

  • Cost: The World Bank does not provide monetary fees/compensation to individuals taking part in the World Bank Legal Internship Program. It is up to the student and their university or sponsoring organization to provide compensation in the form of monetary fees or academic credit equivalent to the Bank’s fee schedule. Therefore, participants of the World Bank Legal Internship Program need to secure appropriate funding for their internships.
  • Medical Insurance: Interns of the World Bank must have valid international medical insurance and must cover any medical expenses they incur while participating in the internship program. They must provide documentation of their insurance coverage.
  • Selection Process: The World Bank Group will be selecting its Legal Interns through a competitive selection process and is committed to equal-opportunity employment.
  • Onboarding: The World Bank Legal Vice Presidency will host a short orientation at the start of the Summer, Fall, and Spring Internship programs for the newest group of interns.
  • Evaluations on Performance: The World Bank will not assess the accomplishments of those who take part in its Legal Internship Program.
