IWMF Courage in Journalism Awards 2023 for Journalists and Photojournalists

The IWMF Courage in Journalism Awards 2023 for Journalists and Photojournalists aims to give recognition to female and nonbinary journalists who demonstrate impressive courage, persistence, and perseverance. Regardless of the obstacles or limits placed before them, these reporters go the extra mile to uncover the facts and set a higher standard for journalism in difficult situations or in the face of suppression.

The Courage in Journalism Awards is organized and funded by IWMF where brave journalists are recognized for their bravery in reporting on sensitive issues and operating in dangerous locations, their dedication to press freedom, and their ability to overcome challenges in order to become leaders in their field, both online and offline. Women or nonbinary reporters, editors, photographers, producers, and writers, who are either staff members or freelancers from any country or nationality, are called to apply for the Courage in Journalism Awards.

Purpose of the IWMF Courage in Journalism Awards 2023 for Journalists and Photojournalists:

The Courage in Journalism Awards celebrates the female journalists who demonstrate resilience and bravery when tackling controversial topics, in spite of facing hostile environments. It is a recognition of their strength and determination to not be silenced and to be acknowledged for their work.

The Wallis Annenberg Justice for Women Journalists Award annually highlights the cases of female journalists who have been arrested, jailed, or imprisoned. Despite initial global attention, many of these cases are forgotten as new incidents occur. By bringing attention to these stories, it’s important to raise awareness of the challenges faced by women journalists and work toward their safety.
