Global Biodiversity Information Facility Young Researchers Awards 2023

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility Young Researchers Awards 2023 is offered to outstanding young graduates who are citizens of GBIF participating countries to submit their application and stand a chance to win a €5,000 prize.

The GBIF Secretariat is delighted to call for nominations for the Young Researchers Award 2023. This annual program celebrates and promotes creative investigation and breakthroughs in biodiversity informatics by graduate students whose research is based on GBIF-mediated data.

In 2023, two early-career researchers, ideally one master’s and one Ph.D. candidate, will be awarded €5,000 prizes as a result of formal nominations from the heads of delegation and node managers of GBIF Participant countries.

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) is an international network and research infrastructure funded by governments and organizations. It provides free and open access to biodiversity data from around the world. GBIF enables research, education, and decision-making based on a comprehensive, reliable, and authoritative source of information about life on Earth. It is used by scientists, governments, industry, and conservationists to gain insight into the status and trends of global biodiversity, as well as to inform decisions about how to best conserve, manage, and use Earth’s resources.

Eligibility for the Global Biodiversity Information Facility Young Researchers Awards 2023:

  • To be eligible for the award, applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program at a university.
  • Applicants must be citizens of GBIF participating countries.
  • Nominations may be submitted by either the GBIF delegation or node of the candidate’s home country or the country where the candidate’s host institution is located.
