2023 YALI Southern Africa Regional Leadership Program for Africans

Suitably qualified applicants between the ages of 18 to 35 years of age who have proven experience and track record in Public Management, Business, Entrepreneurship, or Civic Leadership are invited to submit application for the cohort 21 of the 2023 YALI Southern Africa Regional Leadership Program for Africans consisting of both online from March 13 to March 26, 2023 and in resident from April 10 to April 30, 2023.

The YALI Southern Africa Regional Leadership Program is a signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders. The YALI Regional Leadership Center Southern Africa (RLC SA) is hosted by the University of South Africa at the Graduate School of Business Leadership in Midrand, South Africa. The program aims to create critical thinkers who can solve complex, multidisciplinary problems, foster entrepreneurial and innovative thinking, and encourage cross-border communication and multicultural collaboration. The program seeks develops the skills of young African leaders by providing core training in contemporary African issues, as well as specialized training in three key areas: Business and Entrepreneurship, Civic Leadership, and Public Management.

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is an initiative of the United States Department of State. It was established in 2010 by President Barack Obama. YALI is a program aimed at educating and networking young African leaders with activities including the Mandela Washington Fellowship that brings them to study in the United States for six weeks, with follow-up resources, and student exchange programs.

Eligibility for the 2023 YALI Southern Africa Regional Leadership Program for Africans:

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 18 to 35 years of age.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated commitment to positively impact their communities, countries, and the African continent at large.
  • Applicants must have proven experience and track record in Public Management, Business, Entrepreneurship, or Civic Leadership.
  • Applicants must be from Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, or Zimbabwe.
  • Applicants must have the ability to commit to a two weeks online and three weeks residential program.
  • Applicants must be proficient in English language.
  • Applicants can be individuals that represent and advocate for the rights of LGBTIQ communities across the above mentioned region.
