The Fully Funded French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship 2024 provides 10-month fellowships in six Institutes located in Aix-Marseille, Loire Valley, Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes, and Paris. This program actively encourages applications from accomplished international scholars and scientists who specialize primarily in the fields of social sciences and humanities (SSH).

The selected fellows will enjoy a supportive and stimulating scientific environment provided by the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), which includes an interdisciplinary community of fellows and strong connections to the local research resources. They will have the freedom to structure their work and pursue research according to their own preferences.

Eligibility for the Fully Funded French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship 2024;

  • Applicants must hold a doctoral degree and have a minimum of two years of full-time research experience following the completion of their degree. However, an exception can be made for scholars who possess a master’s degree and have accumulated six years of full-time research experience after completing their degree. It is important to note that the calculation of experience does not include any time spent in Ph.D. training.
  • Applicants are required to meet the transnational MSCA mobility requirement, which states that incoming researchers should not have lived or engaged in their primary activity (work, studies, etc.) in France for more than 12 months within the three years immediately preceding the deadline of the call.
  • The Programme is open to all Social Sciences and Humanities students.
  • Applicants are expected to submit complete application forms along with all the required documents through the designated online application platform. Incomplete and tardy applications will not be deemed eligible for consideration. Furthermore, applications that do not adhere to the specified maximum length criteria will not be taken into account. Please note that applications submitted in languages other than English, including partial translations, will not be considered.

Interested applicants are expected to complete their application exclusively via the FIAS website. Applicants must create a user account via the arrow in the high right corner of the FIAS webpage and submit the required documents below.

  • The completed online application form
  • A detailed curriculum vitae with a comprehensive list of publications
  • A copy of the diploma
  • A detailed research proposal (maximum 5 pages and a bibliography – 1 additional page)
  • A selection of three to five publications (articles or book chapters)
  • A letter of support/interest by an IAS’s local scientific partner
  • Optional two letters of recommendation
