- The areas of focus are comprehending Health and Disease, reconfiguring Agri-food Systems, and preserving Ecosystems and Biodiversity.
Engineering and Physical Sciences
- The areas of interest in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering include Net Zero Engineering, with a specific emphasis on clean energy technologies such as batteries, fuel cells, hydrogen systems, and closely related fields. Additionally, there is a focus on exploring the circular economy.
- The fields of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering involve the use of digital twins, cyber-physical systems, and VR/AR technologies for engineering and manufacturing system design.
- The areas of interest in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science encompass Electronics for a sustainable society or Sustainable materials and Electronic Systems. This includes a wide range of topics such as materials, flexible electronics, sensors, and power electronics.

Eligibility for the Vice Chancellor’s Illuminate Fellowship 2023 at Queen’s University Belfast:
- Applicants must have completed Ph.D. in a relevant subject.
- Applicants must have normally 2 to 8 years of post-PhD experience
- Applicants must have high-quality publication records.
- Applicants must have a research profile and plan which is aligned with an existing research strength at Queen’s.
