2023 ICANN Fellowship Program for Young Leaders

Suitably qualified Young African Leaders who are more than 21 years of age and are interested or involved with the various components of ICANN’s work in policy building, the operation of the Domain Name System and the security and stability of the global Internet are invited to submit application for the 2023 ICANN Fellowship Program which helps to strengthen the diversity of the multi-stake holder model.

The ICANN Fellowship Program is an annual program which helps to strengthen the diversity of the multi-stake holder model by fostering opportunities for individuals from undeserved and underrepresented communities in Africa to become active participants in the ICANN community. During the fellowship program, successful fellows will be exposed to the workings of the ICANN community, assigned a mentor, and receive training across different areas of knowledge and skill building. Travel assistance to attend the meeting is also provided and preference are given to young leaders from South Africa.

ICANN is an American multi stakeholder group and nonprofit organization responsible for coordinating the maintenance and procedures of several databases related to the namespaces and numerical spaces of the Internet, ensuring the network’s stable and secure operation. ICANN performs the actual technical maintenance work of the Central Internet Address pools and DNS root zone registries pursuant to the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) function contract.

Eligibility for the 2023 ICANN Fellowship Program for Young Leaders:

  • Applicants must be from an undeserved and underrepresented community in Africa.
  • Applicants must not be less than 21 years of age at the time of application.
  • Applicants must be interested in or already involved with the various components of ICANN’s work in policy building, the operation of the Domain Name System and the security and stability of the global Internet.
  • Applicants must have completed mandatory ICANN Learn course(s).
  • Applicants must not be involved in or associated with other ICANN supported travel programs.
  • Applicants must have previously received not more than two ICANN fellowships.
  • Second and third time fellows must prove their involvement and engagement in one of the ICANN communities.
