Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize 2023 Application

Applications are welcome for the Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize 2023 Application which seeks to acknowledge the outstanding intellectual or practical leadership demonstrated by a young activist in protecting, advancing, or reinvigorating democracy, offer the person who has been awarded the prize assistance and guidance through a one-year mentorship with a renowned democracy expert or experienced leader and encourage youth to participate in the promotion of democracy.

The Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize, presented annually at the Athens Democracy Forum, is awarded to a young leader aged 18 to 30 years of age. The purpose of the prize is to honor outstanding leadership and motivate young people to promote democracy. An impartial panel of judges evaluates the submissions and chooses the prize winner to take home an amount worth USD 10,000.

Benefits of the Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize 2023 Application:

• The winner receives an award of USD 10,000 and a one-year mentorship with a recognized democracy expert.

Nomination for the Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize 2023 Application:

To be eligible for nomination, applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old. There are no limitations based on nationality, gender, or occupation. The Selection Committee will evaluate the following criteria when selecting the final winner:

1. Impact: The nominee’s actions resulted in a visible effect, such as a shift in policy in a certain nation, an increased turnout for elections, more people contacted through a certain initiative, more people using a certain program, more students recognizing the importance of democracy, and more community organizations participating in an educational effort.
2. Innovation: The groundbreaking nature of these actions.
3. Sustainability: For at least one year, has the nominee made strides to promote democracy and human rights, and do their efforts have lasting and transferable results?
4. Values: The Nominee demonstrated values through their behavior.
5. Benefit: The international recognition and backing that the Award could offer to the nominee.

Nomination Procedure for the Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize 2023 Application:

Interested applicants are required to send their completed nomination to: nominations@democracyculturefoundation.org before the application deadline. All nominations must include the following below:

• Completed Submission Form
• A Cover Letter of support of a maximum of 500 words
• A short 2 mins video testimony from the nominee
