On an annual basis, the Commonwealth UK Department for Education makes available the fully funded Commonwealth PhD Scholarships 2024 for High-Income Countries to financially support doctoral students interested in pursuing a full-time PhD study at a UK university
The Commonwealth PhD Scholarships 2024 sponsored by the UK Department for Education (DfE) enables talented and suitably qualified students from high-income countries to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development at a UK university which aside from the financial support of this PhD scholarship, can not afford to study in the UK for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships provide talented and motivated individuals with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills in their given sector and to contribute to sustainable development in their home countries.
The Commonwealth PhD Scholarships are offered under six themes:

Eligibility for the Commonwealth PhD Scholarships 2024 for High-Income Countries:
- Applicants must be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.
- Applicants must be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
- Applicants must be registered for a PhD at a university in an eligible Commonwealth country by the time your Scholarship starts (September 2024).
- Applicants must ensure that an institutional or departmental link exists between their home university and their proposed UK university. This link must be greater than simply a collaboration between individuals. Both supervisors must provide a supporting statement that provides further details of the link to ensure your application is eligible.
- Applicants must be available to start their academic studies in the UK in September 2024.
- By September 2024, applicants must hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) honors standard, or a lower second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree).
- Applicants must be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship.
