The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Fellowships 2023 is offered to suitably qualified academics who hold at least a Ph.D. degree and professional services staff at ACU member universities.

ACU Fellowships provide up to 5,000 GBP to ACU member universities’ academics and professional services staff for a research visit to another ACU university in a different country, lasting up to 6 months. These Fellowships promote collaboration and foster strong ties between ACU universities across the Commonwealth.

The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is an international membership organization that works to promote and support higher education, research, and knowledge exchange across the Commonwealth. It is headquartered in London, United Kingdom, and has over 500 members from universities, colleges, and other institutions in over 50 countries. The ACU works to advance education, research, and development in member countries and to build bridges between universities in the Commonwealth. It provides a range of services, including advocacy and policy advice, professional development, research collaborations, and exchange programs.

Eligibility for the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Fellowships 2023:

Applicants with a Ph.D. or higher from a university that is an ACU member, as well as professional services staff from those institutions.

Available Fellowships for the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Fellowships 2023:

In 2023/2024, two fellowships will be awarded in each of the following categories below, excluding the Coventry Fellowship:

  • Accountancy Fellowship: The Worshipful Company of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales is a backer of this.
  • Agriculture, Forestry, and Food Science Fellowship: Supported by George Weston Limited.
  • Canada Fellowship, outgoing: Through the generosity of Gordon and Jean Southam, a staff member from an ACU member university in Canada will be given an opportunity to partner with an ACU member university outside Canada and receive Legacy funding.
  • Canada Fellowship, incoming: The Gordon and Jean Southam Legacy Fund has designated funding to support a staff member from an ACU member university situated outside of Canada to collaborate with an ACU member university located in Canada.
  • Coventry University Fellowships: This fellowship offers academics from African and Asian ACU member universities the opportunity to visit Coventry University’s Centre for Computational Science and Mathematical Modelling, and is supported by Coventry University.
  • Wighton Engineering Fellowship: Open only to applicants from low and middle-income countries.
  • Hong Kong Jockey Club Fellowship, outgoing: A Hong Kong Jockey Club-supported grant is available to a staff member from an ACU member university in Hong Kong to collaborate with a staff member from an ACU member university outside of Hong Kong.
  • Hong Kong Jockey Club Fellowship, incoming: A grant provided by the Hong Kong Jockey Club is available to a staff member of an ACU member institution outside of Hong Kong to collaborate with a member institution in Hong Kong.
  • Information Technology and Computer Science Fellowship: Supported by the Jacky McAleer Memorial.

Method of Application for the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Fellowships 2023:

Interested applicants must fill out the application form which requires:

  • Summarise the work you plan to carry out during the Fellowship, and how the collaboration will benefit the project. Explain why you have chosen to collaborate with your partner institution for the project rather than any other.
  • Describe the projected impact of the Fellowship work.
  • Explain how you expect the Fellowship to benefit your own professional development.
  • List the planned outputs of the Fellowship.
  • Submit a time plan for the work, which must cover a minimum of six months between September 2023 and August 2024.
  • List the costs associated with the Fellowship. These can include staff time, consumables, internet access and data, equipment, research data management, travel costs, impact and engagement and open access.
  • Submit a letter or email of support from your head of department at your home institution.
  • Submit a letter or email of support from the collaborator at your partner institution.
