African Development Bank-Japan Africa Dream Scholarship 2025
Suitably qualified African students looking to enroll in a master’s degree program at any eligible Japanese university are invited to apply for the African Development Bank-Japan Africa Dream Scholarship 2025. The scholarship aims to support citizens of AFDB member countries in acquiring graduate education in Japan for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The fully funded African Development Bank-Japan Africa Dream Scholarship offers eligible African students a two-year Master’s scholarship opportunity to pursue post-graduate studies at the master’s level in energy, agriculture, health, environmental sustainability, and engineering at any Japanese university for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Eligibility for the African Development Bank-Japan Africa Dream Scholarship 2025:
- Applicants must be a nationals of an AfDB member country.
- Applicants must be 35 years old or less.
- Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent degree) bachelor’s degree (or equivalent degree) in energy, agriculture, health, environmental sustainability, engineering studies, or related areas with excellent academic records, relevant professional experience, and a history of supporting your country’s development efforts.
- Applicants must have at least 1 year of paid employment in their home country or other African countries after receiving their Bachelor’s (or equivalent degree) within the past 3 years.
- Applicants must not be living or working outside of their home country.
- Applicants must not already be enrolled in a graduate degree program.
- Applicants must not be an Executive Director, his/her alternate, and staff of all types of appointments of the African Development Bank Group or a close relative of the aforementioned by blood or adoption with the term “close relative” defined as Mother, Father, Sister, Half-sister, Brother, Half-brother, Son, Daughter, Aunt, Uncle, Niece, or Nephew.
- Applicants must agree to return to their home country to contribute to its economic and social development after completing studies under the program.
Scholarship Benefits:
- Tuition fee coverage for the duration of the study program (24 months).
- Monthly living stipend for the duration of the study program (24 months).
- Air travel from the home country to the host university at the start of the study program and back home at the end of the scholarship period.
- Health insurance is usually obtained through the university.
- Additional six (6) months for advanced preparatory study or internships after graduation.
- For scholars engaged in research, a special grant may be available for research and thesis preparation. In special circumstances, computer literacy, preparatory language, and other similar courses may be covered under the scholarship.
Method of Application for the African Development Bank-Japan Africa Dream Scholarship 2025:
Interested applicants for the African Development Bank-Japan Africa Dream Scholarship 2025 are to complete an online application and submit it before the application deadline. Applicants are to request information, application forms, and procedures from the chosen JADS partner university.
- The candidate will be required to complete and submit an application for admission.
- The university evaluates and selects applicants and gives them a provisional offer letter.
- The university sends a list of selected candidates to the African Development Bank and the Bank further shares the list with the JADS Program Implementation Unit (PIU) to evaluate the applications based on a set of criteria.
- After the evaluation, the African Development Bank contacts the successful candidates and informs the universities.
