
Eligible foreign scholars and artists from eligible countries are invited to apply for the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2027 for a chance to pursue a Postgraduate degree program at an accredited Swiss public university for the 2027/2028 academic session.
The fully funded Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships offers suitably qualified foreign scholars and artists the funding needed to pursue a Postgraduate degree or a research work at a Swiss public university for the academic year 2027/2028. This Postgraduate Scholarships is a bid to promote international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and over 180 other countries.
Scholarship Types
These scholarships are available to postgraduate researchers in any discipline wishing to pursue research at any Swiss cantonal university, university of applied sciences, either of Switzerland’s two federal institutes of technology (ETHZ or EPFL) or at one of the four research institutes within the ETH Domain (PSI, WSL, Empa, Eawag). The scholarship application must be backed by an academic supervisor in Switzerland who is willing to direct and guide the applicant’s proposed research.
Art scholarships are open to students wishing to pursue an initial Master’s degree in an artistic field in Switzerland. This scholarship is available to students from a limited number of countries only.

Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must be an international student (a foreign scholar or artist)
- The applicant must be admitted into a Masters or PhD program.
- For Masters program, the applicant must hold (or are about to obtain) a undergraduate degree (or international equivalent) from a reputable institution;
- For PhD program, the applicant must hold a master’s-level qualification at merit or distinction (or international equivalent);
- The applicant must have a track record of engaging with research. This may include contributions to publications/articles, promoting their research to a wider audience, prizes for research or project work.
Selection Criteria
Scholarship applications are assessed according to these three criteria below:

- Quality of the research project or artistic work
- Synergies and potential for future research cooperation
