Early-career economists and statisticians have the opportunity to work as civil servants in the public sector of low- and middle-income countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, the Pacific, and the Western Balkans for two-year contracts through the ODI Fellowship Scheme. Fellows are usually appointed as local civil servants who report to local managers and work in various institutions, including finance and planning ministries, health and education ministries, central banks, statistics offices, and regulatory bodies. The fellowship is worth a monthly Stipend plus an accommodation allowance

Requirements for the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) Fellowship Scheme 2023:
Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply for the ODI fellowship scheme, and ODI strongly encourages applications from LGBTQ+ and disabled applicants. Postgraduate economists and statisticians who are interested in development are particularly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications for the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) Fellowship Scheme 2023:
- Applicants from any country who hold a master’s degree or a Ph.D. in economics, statistics, or a related field are eligible to apply for the ODI Fellowship Scheme.
- Postgraduate qualifications that are appropriate for the scheme include but are not limited to agricultural economics, environmental economics, international economics, health economics, development economics, econometrics, and statistics.
- If an applicant is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree, the award of a fellowship is contingent upon the successful completion of their degree.
Benefits of the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) Fellowship Scheme 2023:
The fellowship provides fellows with a total package worth GBP21,000 per annum (with an increase to GBP23,000 in the second year), in addition to a housing allowance.
Fellows receive a comprehensive package valued at GBP21,000 annually (which increases to GBP23,000 in the second year) and a housing allowance through the fellowship program.
Selection Criteria for the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) Fellowship Scheme 2023:
- Interviews are scheduled to take place during the week of 19 June 2023.
- Successful applicants will be expected to attend a week-long briefing session in-person in London the week of 11 September 2023.
