Undergraduate and postgraduate African students looking to pursue their degree program at the University of Gondar in Ethiopia are invited to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program 2024 for the 2024/2025 academic session. The University has many resources and facilities to help students succeed academically.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Gondar seeks to provide Undergraduate scholarships and Postgraduate scholarships worth tuition fees for students from East African countries who intend to enroll in a full-time degree program at the University for the 2024/25 academic session.

The two categories of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program are the undergraduate and graduate scholars program. The Undergraduate Scholars Program is a collaborative program involving the Mastercard Foundation and the University of Gondar to create scholarship opportunities that cover the academic and non-academic costs of studies in various fields of study for Ethiopian youth to pursue undergraduate studies at the University.

The Graduate Scholars Program is financially supported by the Mastercard Foundation and will provide excellent academic and non-academic support to Scholars during their stay at the University and is designed to help Scholars acquire transformational and leadership skills and demonstrate high professional and scholarly competencies to effectively influence global, regional, national, and local socioeconomic development trends.

Eligibility for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program 2024:

  • Applicants must have earned a Bachelor’s degree in a discipline relevant to their proposed graduate program from a recognized University using English as a medium of instruction in the past 5 years with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) at graduation.
  • Applicants must be citizens and permanent residents of Somalia, Eritrea, South Sudan, or Djibouti (and residents of the respective countries for at least five years at the time of their application).
  • Youth applicants with disabilities.
  • Applicants can be female applicants with financial difficulty to finance graduate university education.
  • Applicants must have earned a passing mark on the Graduate Admission Test (GAT) administered by the Ethiopian Ministry of Education.

Method of Application for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program 2024:

Eligible applicants for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program 2024 are to complete an online application form and provide information about their academic ability, financial need, and disability status as well as community giveback and leadership potential.

Kindly ready scanned copies of all relevant documents and attach them with your signed and scanned Application Form when submitting your application. While sending your application by mail, please also send copies of your credentials and testimonials as well.

Required Documents:

  • A medical paper signed by the Health/Hospital Board attesting to your disability type and degree, if you have been assessed by a health professional
  • Completed and signed Scholarship Application Form
  • Detailed resume of academic, non‐academic, and volunteer work
  • All elementary, high school, and university transcripts/student copies
  • Two letters of recommendation from previous universities
  • National and/or resident identification card, or passport
  • Testimonials regarding their economic disadvantage (for Kebele/Woreda Administrator)
  • Letter from District Police Office regarding their criminal record
  • Testimonial about voluntary community giveback and leadership.
