Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) Writing Fellowships

The Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) Writing Fellowships is offered to emerging African creative writers who work both in short and long Fiction to take part in this fully funded second annual writers’ workshop which will take place from August 1 to October 31, 2023.

The Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) is hosting a three months writing-intensive program for emerging African creative writers who have a current work in progress that they would like to complete or publish. Each writer will focus on her or his individual work as well as read others’ work and provide feedback. Writers will have the privilege to benefit from the numerous supportive structure that a writers’ workshop creates.

The Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) is a joint initiative of the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.

Eligibility for the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) Writing Fellowships:

  • Applicants must be African writers who work in short and long Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction, Playwriting, Screenwriting, and Poetry.
  • Applicants must be from an African country.
