Ghent University Doctoral Scholarships 2025 for Developing Countries

Highly talented PhD students from developing countries are invited to apply for the Ghent University Doctoral Scholarships 2025. This scholarship offers promising researchers the opportunity to carry out part of their PhD research at Ghent University in Belgium.

Supported by the university’s “Special Research Fund” (BOF), the scholarship is designed for PhD students from the Global South to conduct half of their research at Ghent University (‘North’) and the other half at a university in their home country (‘South’).

The scholarship entails expenses for the next two years of the research program which will be undertaken at Ghent University. However, candidates have to find full-time funding for the remaining two-year research period within a University in the Global South.

This novel ‘sandwich’ model encourages international links and provides students with the probability of access to some of the world’s best educational institutions in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, that will assist in developing a pool of friends and alumni across the globe all in a bid to support and enhance the excellent research brought about by the students.
