Those who are selected for these grants have the opportunity to reside at either the Getty Research Institute or Getty Villa. During their stay, they are able to dedicate their time to independent projects without any professional obligations. Additionally, they are granted access to the extensive collections available at the Getty, and they have the chance to engage with their peers through weekly lectures focused on a particular research theme that changes annually. Furthermore, they are encouraged to actively participate in the intellectual community and events hosted by the Getty.

Applicants who are researchers of all nationalities are eligible.
Applicants must be working in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.
Applicants must have received their degree after September 1, 2020.

Each application must include a Curriculum Vitae, an Optional Writing Sample, and a comprehensive plan for study and research, which should not exceed five pages and should be typed and double-spaced. This plan should address two key points:

*Please note that applicants for the AAAHI and PRW Research Project Scholarships are exempted from working on the annual theme. Instead, they should focus their description on either:

African American art and cultural history for the AAAHI Scholarship.
Williams’ life and legacy for the PRW Research Project Scholarship.
