Fully Funded ITU Empowering Women in Spectrum Management Program 2023

The Fully Funded ITU Empowering Women in Spectrum Management Program 2023 is an initiative of PRIDA, a collaborative effort between the African Union (AU), the European Union (EU), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Its primary objective is to enable Africa to fully exploit the advantages of digitalization by addressing different aspects of broadband supply and demand across the continent, as well as strengthening the Internet Governance capacity of AU member states.

The PRIDA project, under the management of ITU, aims to offer a fully funded spectrum management program to young women who are in their final year of studies. The training comprises two sessions, with the initial session being held in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Around 200 young women from French-speaking countries in Africa will be chosen to participate in this session.

The management of the spectrum involves controlling the utilization of radio frequencies to optimize efficiency and achieve a positive social impact. The radio spectrum encompasses the complete range of frequencies, from 1 Hz to 3000 GHz (3 THz), that can be utilized for wireless communication. In recent times, the growing demand for mobile phone services and other wireless technologies has necessitated a shift in the approach to spectrum management. With the advent of advanced technologies like 3G and 4G mobile services and the rapid expansion of wireless internet services, the demand for wireless broadband has surged.
