The Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens (BKMC) is delighted to declare the commencement of the 7th iteration of the Global Citizen Scholarship 2024, inviting applications. The primary goal is to empower young African global citizens with a fervor for actively contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Global Citizen Scholarship (GC Scholarship) is a virtual initiative designed to enable young African change-makers. Participants are encouraged to tackle one or more of the SDGs within their community by devising and executing a localized SDG Micro-Project. Additionally, they can engage in summer school, receive peer-to-peer mentoring, and participate in various expert-led training sessions and workshops focusing on specific topics.

Eligibility for the Ban Ki-moon Global Citizen Scholarship 2024:

  1. African youth regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation.
  2. Applicants must be between the age group 20-35 years.
  3. Applicants must have completed at least a Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  4. Applicants must demonstrate strong dedication to SDGs and the ideals of global citizenship.
  5. Applicants must have a minimum English level B2 (European Standards).
  6. Applicants must hold citizenship from one of the following countries:
  • Ghana
  • Nigeria
  • Cameroon
  • Ethiopia
  • Kenya

Method of Application for the Ban Ki-moon Global Citizen Scholarship 2024:

Throughout the nomination procedure, you will be required to input:

  • Your details (e.g. name, contact information, date of birth, address, citizenship, gender, education, language competence, short profile description)
  • Your professional details (e.g. academic titles, name of organization, function)
  • SDG Micro-Project information (title, issues, and SDGs tackled, general process and implementation)

In the concluding phase of the nomination process, you will receive prompts to upload the following documents:

  • Your motivational statement
  • A portrait picture of yourself (JPEG or PNG format)
  • An introduction video of yourself (max 30 seconds, MP4 or MOV format)
  • Your CV
  • A project outline of your SDG Micro Project idea.
