
Application for the Research Training Program (RTP) and Equivalent Scholarships 2026 at University of Sydney is currently open. This provide financial support to both international and domestic postgraduate research students at the University in Australia.
Both domestic (stipend only) and international students (tuition fee and stipend) who are enrolled or commencing their Higher Degree by Research at the University of Sydney for the 2026/2027 academic session are invited to apply for the Research Training Program (RTP) and Equivalent Scholarships. This Postgraduate Scholarships provide financial support and is awarded through a competitive process so be sure to meet the requirements before applying.

Requirements
- Applicants must be a commencing or enrolled domestic or international higher degree by research student.
- Applicants must have an outstanding record of academic achievement and previous research experience.
- Apply for admission and submit all required documentation for admission to a higher degree by research through Sydney Courses by the deadlines outlined in the ‘Application and award timeline’ table. These differ for domestic students and international students.
- Be currently enrolled in a higher degree by research.
- Submit the scholarship application form by the deadlines.
Preference
Preference may be given to applicants who:
- Intending to enroll or currently enrolled in a PhD,
- Have not previously received an Australian Government or University Scholarship to complete an HDR course at the same level,
- Have not previously completed an HDR course at the same level of study.

International students Commencing or enrolled in a higher degree by research
Those awarded with a RTP Stipend Scholarship will automatically be awarded this scholarship. Worth 100% tuition fees for up to 14 research periods and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) - University of Sydney International Stipend Scholarship (USYDIS)
International students Commencing or enrolled in a higher degree by research
Competitively awarded. Worth $42,754 p.a. stipend (2026 rate),Relocation and thesis allowance - University of Sydney Tuition Fee Scholarship
International students Commencing or enrolled in a higher degree by research
Those awarded with a USYDIS will automatically be awarded this scholarship. Worth 100% tuition fees for up to 14 research periods.
