In 2021, the 14th Emir of Kano, His Highness Muhammad Sanusi II, who is also a UN Advocate of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), collaborated with 1 Million Teachers to initiate the MSII SDG Challenge, an annual event. The objective of this Muhammad Sanusi II SDG Challenge (Cohort 3) 2023 For African Teachers is to inspire and equip teachers to create inventive community-based initiatives that concentrate on SDG 4, which is Quality Education, and SDG 5, which is Gender Equality.

Muhammad Sanusi II is a Nigerian traditional ruler, scholar, and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He was born on July 31, 1961, in Kano, Nigeria. He is a direct descendant of Muhammadu Sunusi, the 11th Fulani Emir of Kano, and he became the 14th Emir of Kano in 2014. Prior to his ascension to the throne, he had a successful career in the banking sector and served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from 2009 to 2014. Sanusi is a prominent advocate for social and economic development in Nigeria and Africa, and he has spoken out against corruption and government mismanagement. He is also a strong supporter of education and women’s rights, and he has been recognized for his advocacy work in these areas by the United Nations.
