The International Merit Scholarships providing financial aid to academically talented international students looking to study an undergraduate degree at Iowa State University in the United States for the 2027/2028 year.

The Undergraduate Scholarships are available to a limited number of high-achieving international first-year and transfer students. Selection is competitive and considers academic performance as well as demonstrated achievements and accomplishments.

Eligibility Criteria

First-Year International applicants must:

• Be offered admission to Iowa State University as an international first-year student.
• Be assessed international tuition rates.
• Submit the Iowa State University OneApp scholarship application.
• Complete the General Application in OneApp.
• Complete the International Student Admissions Scholarship Application under the recommended opportunities for their entry term.
• Accept their admission offer by May 1 for fall entry or December 15 for spring entry.

Note: SAT or ACT scores are not required to apply for the International Merit Scholarship.

International Transfer applicants must:

• Be offered admission as an international transfer student.
• Be assessed international tuition rates.
• Have a cumulative GPA equivalent to at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (B average).
• Complete the required OneApp scholarship applications.
• Accept their admission offer by the applicable deadline.

Scholarship Benefits

First-Year Students

• Award of Achievement
  1. $5,000–$10,000 per year.
  2. Up to $40,000 total.
• Award of Distinction
  1. $2,000–$4,000 per year.
  2. Up to $16,000 total.

Funding is available for a maximum of eight semesters or until completion of the undergraduate degree, whichever occurs first.

Transfer Students

• Award of Achievement
  1. $5,000–$8,000 per year.
  2. Up to $20,000 total.
• Award of Distinction
  1. $2,000–$4,000 per year.
  2. Up to $10,000 total.

Transfer scholarship funding is available for up to five semesters or until degree completion.
