Suitably qualified AERC network members who are African researchers are invited to submit their interest to participate in the AERC-World Bank Visiting Scholars Program 2026 to benefit from capacity-building efforts being organized by DECAF, including collaboration with scholars and peers doing analytical work on World Bank Regional Flagship Studies and so much more.
African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) in partnership with The World Bank, Africa Region Chief Economist’s Office (AFRCE) is inviting its network of researchers who are selected based on set guidelines including the World Bank’s policies and procedures to submit an expression of interest to participate in the AERC-World Bank Visiting Scholars Program 2026. The fellowship program will enable participants to visit the World Bank for four-six months, work on their own research relevant to economic development in Africa and also work with World Bank’s researchers, especially those in the Africa Region.
The AERC-World Bank visiting scholars programme is central to the collaboration between the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and The World Bank, Africa Region Chief Economist’s Office (AFRCE) with the sole objective to enhance AERC’s capacity to boost economic policy research in sub-Saharan Africa, help strengthen AERC’s global linkages in areas of economic policy, academic research, and graduate training and so many others.

Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the AERC-World Bank Visiting Scholars Program 2026, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be an AERC researcher, including researchers from the AERC collaborative PhD programme CPP);
- Must have an active AERC research project at least at interim/post field stage or final research paper stage; and
- The research project must be pertinent to the research agenda of the World Bank Africa Region, and imperatives for sustained African development.
Application Process:
Applicants expression of interest should include the following:
- A two-page statement of interest.
- A draft paper on a subject pertinent to the research agenda of the Africa region of the World Bank and imperatives facing African development.
- If you teach a relevant course, the curriculum/course materials that you would like to improve while visiting the World Bank; and
- Copy of your updated curriculum vitae.
